Questions and answers

About the trial, licences, your data and the rest. Anything else, ask on the contact page.

Trying and buying

How does the trial work?
Download Polyquill and start writing: everything works for 30 days, counted only on the days you use it. There is no account to make and no card to enter.
What happens when the trial ends?
Polyquill becomes read-only until you enter a licence key. Your projects still open, and you can read, search, export and save copies of everything. Nothing you wrote is ever locked away.
How much is it?
$50, once, plus any sales tax or VAT due where you live. There is no subscription. See pricing.
Who handles the payment?
Polyquill is made by Luna Lazuli LLC. Orders go through Paddle, our reseller, which takes cards and PayPal, adds the right tax for your country, and sends the receipt.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, within 30 days, in full. A refunded key stops working. See the refund policy.

Licences and computers

How many computers can I use it on?
Two at a time, Windows or Mac in any mix once the Mac version is out. To move to a new computer, choose Help > Licence > Deactivate on the old one, or remove it from your account if it is lost or broken.
Do I need to be online?
Only once, to activate your key. After that Polyquill checks its licence on your computer every time it starts, and renews it quietly about once a month when you happen to be online. If you are not, nothing changes.
Are updates free?
Every 1.x update and fix is free. A future Polyquill 2 will be a paid upgrade for owners, at a discount, and you can try it for 90 days first. The version you have never stops working.
I lost my key.
Sign in to your account with the email you bought with, and have the key sent to you again.

Schools, teams and other platforms

Is there an education price?
Yes, $40 for students and teachers with a school or university email address. Get the education price, or write to us if your school's address is not recognised.
Can a school or company buy several licences?
Yes. Tell us how many people will use it and we will send a written quote you can pay by card or PayPal.
Is there a Mac version?
It is planned, and your licence will cover it at no extra cost. A web version is planned too, on a subscription. See the roadmap.

Your work and your data

Where is my writing kept?
On your computer, in one ordinary file per project, wherever you choose to save it. Polyquill has no account for your writing and never uploads it.
What does Polyquill send anywhere?
Activating a key sends the key, a code made from your computer's id (not the id itself), the computer's name and the Polyquill and Windows versions. An error report is sent only if you choose to send it, and never contains your writing. See the privacy notice.
What is the file format?
A .pqll file: readable JSON holding the text (as RTF), the timeline, the calendar and the settings. Export the manuscript to Word, PDF, EPUB, OpenDocument, RTF, Markdown, HTML or plain text, and the timeline to Excel, CSV, PNG or PDF, whenever you want it somewhere else.
What if Polyquill crashes?
It saves as you write, writes every save in full before replacing the file, keeps dated backups, and copies unsaved work to its backups if it has to close.
